MA811 – Leading like Nero, Caesar, or Christ?
Leading like Nero, Caesar, or Christ? Reading the New Testament Contextually
This course is seminar based and is primarily exegetical in its methodology. It first addresses the Graeco-Roman world of the New Testament using ancient classical sources and secondary literature to cast the framework for the socio-historical milieu of the NT. The course then considers the writings of Luke-Acts and the letter to the Philippians and the models of leadership they present. The course asks why various models of leadership found in the biblical text may have been helpful to the church in their socio-historical contexts. This will enable students to develop the necessary exegetical skills so that they can carry out independent study on another approach to leadership evident in the New Testament. The final aim of this course is to help students consider their own approach to leadership in their ministry context in Aotearoa, NZ.
